For a few hours on Thursday, September 3, something unusual happened across the AI world. People opened ChatGPT. Nothing. They switched to Claude. Problems. Then they tried Grok. Still down. Three of the biggest AI assistants in the world were experiencing service problems within the same window, leaving users wondering whether the much-talked-about “AI-pocalypse” had finally arrived.
Imagine asking an AI to help you investigate a complicated problem, write code, analyze research, and keep working for hours without constantly stopping to say it cannot help. That is the direction Anthropic is taking with its newest models. On September 1, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1, two versions of the same underlying AI model designed for demanding coding, research, and knowledge-work tasks.

And now, Anthropic has found itself right in the middle of that growing U.S.-China tension.
